Tile Stays Dry with Laticrete Waterproofing
Showers, wet rooms and tile floors need a waterproofing layer that bonds to the substrate and the finish above. We install Laticrete Hydro Ban and 9235 systems with matched underlayments, all specified and installed as one integrated assembly. Call for a free written estimate.

The layer that matters
Why Waterproofing Membranes Stop Tile Failure
Tile and stone look good until water finds its way behind them. The membrane is what stops that. Laticrete waterproofing (Hydro Ban for liquid application, 9235 for reinforced detail work) sits between the substrate and the tile, turning a porous surface into a watertight barrier.
Below the membrane, Laticrete underlayments flatten the substrate and create a chemical bond with the membrane above. This one-brand approach eliminates the weak point that happens when you mix products from different manufacturers.
The same system thinking guides our work with Sika and BASF products, ensuring every layer works together instead of against each other.
Installation sequence
How Laticrete Waterproofing Gets Installed
-
Assess the substrate and use case
We evaluate the surface, the wet-area exposure and the tile type to decide between Hydro Ban liquid membrane and the 9235 fabric-reinforced system.
-
Prepare and level with underlayment
A matched Laticrete underlayment is applied to bring the substrate flat and create a stable base for the waterproofing membrane.
-
Apply the membrane at full thickness
Hydro Ban or 9235 is applied per manufacturer spec, with special attention to corners, seams and transitions where water pressure is highest.
-
Set tile into Laticrete thinset
Tile or stone is embedded in a Laticrete thinset that chemically bonds to the membrane, creating one continuous waterproof assembly from substrate to finish.
Two products, one approach
Choosing Between Hydro Ban and 9235
Hydro Ban is a liquid-applied membrane that flows onto walls and floors, sealing the substrate in one continuous layer. It works for most shower and wet-room applications where the surface is relatively flat and movement is minimal.
The 9235 fabric-reinforced system adds a woven reinforcement layer, giving extra strength at corners, movement joints and complex transitions. We choose based on the specific assembly and the stresses it will face. Both systems use Laticrete thinsets and grouts above, keeping the whole assembly in one product family.

Common questions
Laticrete Waterproofing Questions Answered
Hydro Ban vs 9235, tile assembly waterproofing, and underlayment selection in Gatineau.
Hydro Ban under our new shower tile. Watertight, properly detailed at the curb and drain. Two years in and not a single grout-line stain from leaks.
They installed the full Laticrete chain, underlayment, membrane and thinset. One system, one warranty, no finger-pointing between brands.
9235 fabric-reinforced waterproofing for a tricky wet-area detail. Done right at every corner and seam, exactly the assembly the spec called for.
They walked me through why all-Laticrete made sense instead of mixing products. The tile job has been dead solid since.
