The footing is where the building's weight transfers to the soil. We excavate to the depth and bearing capacity the engineer calls for, then form and reinforce the footing so it spreads that load evenly. A footing that is too shallow or too narrow will settle unevenly, and uneven settlement cracks walls and breaks connections.
Walls go up next, formed plumb and true, rebar tied to spec, concrete placed without voids or cold joints. The slab must cure undisturbed before backfill pressure is applied, which is why timing matters. Basement concrete and foundation waterproofing work together to keep groundwater out.
