Ground and Honed Polished Concrete Floors for Gatineau Retail and Office
Polishing a concrete slab means grinding it flat through progressive diamond grits, honing the surface to your chosen gloss level, and densifying it chemically so the finish lasts. The slab becomes the floor. Gatineau Concrete handles polished concrete for showrooms, offices, retail environments and any commercial space where durability and light reflection matter. No coating to peel, no recoating cycles. Call for a free written estimate.

Why polished concrete works
Grinding and Honing Beats Coating Systems
Polished concrete is the slab itself, refined through mechanical grinding and chemical densification. There is no layer sitting on top of the concrete. The surface is the concrete, hardened and smoothed to whatever gloss the design requires. This means no peeling, no recoating, no stripping cycles.
For commercial spaces that need a floor to last decades with minimal upkeep, polished concrete is the answer. Retail floors benefit from the light reflection and clean look. Showrooms gain the reflective quality that makes displayed products stand out. Offices get a professional, low-maintenance surface. The densifier keeps the slab hard; a dust mop or auto-scrubber keeps it clean.
Our commercial floor systems include polished concrete alongside epoxy flooring and self-leveling underlayment. When a slab is too uneven to polish directly, we level it first, then polish. See our concrete brands and products for the densifiers and grits we use.
How it works
The Sequence for Polishing a Commercial Slab
-
Evaluate the existing slab
We inspect the concrete for surface condition, flatness and hardness, note any cracks or spalls that need repair before polishing, and confirm the gloss level and aggregate exposure you want.
-
Grind with coarse diamond grits
Progressive coarse grits flatten the slab, expose the aggregate level you chose (cream, salt-and-pepper or full), and prepare the surface for the honing phase.
-
Apply densifier and hone
A chemical densifier hardens the concrete, then progressive honing grits smooth the surface and begin building the sheen you want.
-
Final polish and guard coat
The final polishing grits bring the slab to your chosen gloss level, matte, satin or high-sheen, and a guard coat protects the surface during the first weeks of use.
Finish and upkeep
Polished Concrete Shows What You Have
The aggregate exposure level you pick at the start determines the look. Cream-only gives a soft, uniform appearance with no stones showing. Salt-and-pepper exposes small aggregate for moderate visual interest. Full aggregate creates a terrazzo-like surface with large stones visible. We grind a small mockup area on your actual slab before committing to the full polish so you see the finish on your concrete.
Maintenance is straightforward. Daily dust mopping or auto-scrubbing keeps the floor sharp. The densifier is refreshed every few years depending on foot traffic to maintain hardness. Unlike epoxy or other coatings, there is no waxing, stripping or top-coat reapplication. The slab itself is the floor, so care is minimal.
If your space has multiple floor types, coordinate polished floor repair with adjacent decorative concrete or anti-slip flooring so transitions are clean and maintenance is consistent across zones.

Polished Concrete Questions, Answered
Aggregate exposure, gloss levels, maintenance and when polished beats other finishes.
Polished slab in our showroom. Reflects the lighting beautifully, no maintenance beyond a daily auto-scrub. Three years in, the floor looks the same as the install day.
Salt-and-pepper exposure was the right choice for our office; not too busy, not too plain. The mockup before the full polish was the moment we knew.
High-sheen polish in a car showroom. The vehicles look incredible on the reflective floor, and the maintenance is dramatically lower than the epoxy we had before.
Polished concrete in the public lobby. Wears like granite, looks like designer concrete. The visiting tenants always comment on it.
