Gatineau Metallic Epoxy Garage Floors, Depth, Gloss, Durability
Pigment swirled into a clear epoxy body coat produces a floor that reads like poured metal or polished stone. Gatineau Concrete seals it under a garage-grade topcoat built for road salt, hot tires, and daily traffic. Free written estimate on every job.

How the finish is built
Inside a Metallic Epoxy Garage Floor: Layer by Layer
The slab gets mechanically ground to open the concrete surface, then a primer bonds to the prepared concrete before anything decorative goes down. That groundwork is what separates a coating that lasts from one that peels after a Gatineau winter. See how this compares to a polished concrete garage floor, which skips the coating entirely and works the slab itself.
The metallic body coat is where the visual character comes from. Metallic pigment is blended into a clear epoxy carrier, poured onto the primed slab, and physically worked with rollers, brushes, and controlled air movement. The pigment migrates and settles into swirls, veins, and cloud-like depth that no two installers produce identically. The result is closer to a piece of poured art than a painted floor.
A tough clear topcoat goes over the cured body coat to handle everything a garage throws at it: dripped brake fluid, tracked-in road salt, the heat of a tire that just came off the highway. For homeowners weighing options, our concrete cost guide breaks down how metallic epoxy prices against other coatings, and the full garage floor coating page covers every system we install. If the existing slab has cracks or pitting, garage floor repair addresses those before any coating goes down.
Installation sequence
From Bare Slab to Finished Metallic Epoxy Floor, What Happens on Site
-
On-site colour selection
We arrive with metallic pigment sample boards and review them with you in the actual garage lighting. Once you settle on a colour or multi-tone blend, we run a small test patch so you can see how the pigment moves at full scale before we commit to the whole floor.
-
Mechanical slab preparation
The concrete is ground to the profile the coating system requires, surface defects and cracks are filled, and a moisture reading confirms the slab is ready. Skipping this step is the single most common reason coatings fail early.
-
Primer and metallic body coat
A matched primer bonds to the prepared concrete. Once it cures, the metallic body coat goes down: pigment-loaded epoxy worked across the slab with rollers, brushes, and directed air to push the pigment into the swirled, three-dimensional pattern.
-
Clear topcoat and cure period
The garage-grade clear topcoat seals the metallic layer and provides the surface that takes daily abuse. Slip-resistant aggregate can be broadcast into the topcoat at this stage. The floor then cures to full hardness before vehicles or heavy loads return.
Choosing the right coating
Picking Between Metallic Epoxy, Polyaspartic, and Polished Concrete
Three questions narrow the choice quickly. First: does the finish matter as much as the budget? A standard epoxy floor with broadcast flake delivers solid protection at a lower cost per square foot. Metallic epoxy costs more because the pigment, the body-coat technique, and the installer time are all greater, but the visual result is in a different category.
Second: how fast does the garage need to be back in service? Polyaspartic coatings cure faster than epoxy and can also be installed as a metallic system if a quick turnaround matters. Third: is there an existing coating that has already failed? Peeling or bubbling means the slab needs proper garage floor repair before any new system goes down, metallic or otherwise. We quote all three paths side by side so the numbers are easy to compare. Read our guide to getting a concrete estimate to know what to expect before we arrive.

Finish variability, durability, colour options, and how metallic epoxy stacks up against other coatings in Gatineau.
Metallic epoxy in a deep blue blend across the shop garage. The depth catches the lights and looks like a showroom, but it handles dropped wrenches and brake fluid just fine.
They did a small test area first so we could see how the metallic moved before committing. Final floor is exactly the look we picked, just at full scale.
Marbled monochrome whites and greys. Looks like polished marble until you realise it is concrete. The topcoat has shrugged off a winter of salt without losing the gloss.
Bought a sports car after the floor went in and the garage finally felt worthy of it. Compliments every time someone visits.
