Non-Combustible Fire Pit Pads for Gatineau Yards
A solid concrete slab anchors any fire pit or fire table, stays level through freeze-thaw cycles, and gives you a safe, non-combustible base for gathering. Gatineau Concrete sizes the pad to your seating layout and fire feature, finishes it for traction, and integrates it with the rest of your yard's concrete work. Every project includes a free written estimate.
- Sized to your fire feature
- Non-combustible concrete base
- Finished for safe footing
The foundation of gathering
Why Concrete Fire Pits Need the Right Base
A fire pit pad does three essential things. It supports the weight of the fire feature itself without settling, provides a non-combustible surface that won't ignite from embers or radiant heat, and creates a level, stable zone for seating chairs and benches around the fire. Fail at any one and the pad either shifts, becomes a fire hazard, or leaves guests standing on uneven ground.
We pour the slab on a compacted base layer, set the thickness and reinforcement to match the fire feature's load, and finish it with a broom texture so wet feet and evening dew don't cause slips. The shape adapts to your yard: round for traditional fire pits, square for modern fire tables, or free-form to fit a corner or landscape.
The pad integrates seamlessly with surrounding concrete. It can tie directly into a concrete patio, connect to an outdoor kitchen counter, or stand alone as a focal point. When designed as part of the whole outdoor living scheme, finishes and elevations align, and the yard reads as intentional.
The build sequence
Building a Fire Pit Pad Step by Step
-
Measure the fire feature and seating
We confirm the fire pit or fire table you own or plan to buy, measure the seating you want around it, and calculate the clearance needed from the house and any combustible structures nearby.
-
Excavate and prepare the base
The pad area is dug to the right depth, a compacted granular base is laid for drainage and stability, and wooden or metal forms are set to the finished shape and a gentle slope to shed water.
-
Pour and finish the concrete slab
Air-entrained concrete is placed, screeded level, and finished with a broom texture for traction. Reinforcement and proper thickness are built in to handle the fire feature load and Gatineau's freeze-thaw stress.
-
Cut joints and cure the pad
Control joints are cut on a grid to manage concrete movement, the slab is cured to full strength, and you receive a handoff date when the pad is ready to support your fire feature and the gathering around it.

How Fire Pit Pads Connect to the Whole Yard
A fire pit rarely stands alone. It pairs naturally with a patio slab for evening seating, an pool deck for summer gatherings, and an outdoor kitchen for cooking and entertaining. When all these concrete elements are poured as one coordinated project, the result is a cohesive outdoor room.
Matching finishes, aligned elevations, and consistent drainage across the entire outdoor living space make the yard feel complete and professional. The fire pit becomes the natural gathering point, anchoring the whole design. That's when a backyard transforms from a collection of features into a destination.

Fire Pit & Fire Table Pad Questions, Answered
Size, clearance, non-combustible bases and how fire-pit pads fit a Gatineau yard.
Round concrete pad sized for our fire pit and six chairs. Stable underfoot, broom finish gives grip, and the kids can run around the seating without worry.
Pad ties into the patio so the whole back of the house feels like one space. Sat around the fire on snow days and the pad does not crack or move.
Free-form pad shaped to fit a corner of the yard. Looks intentional, fits the fire table exactly, and the clearance from the fence is right where the bylaw needs it.
Coordinated the fire-pit pad, the outdoor kitchen and the pool deck as one project. Everything matches, everything drains properly, and the yard finally feels finished.
