Static-Dissipative ESD Flooring for Gatineau

A single static spark can destroy sensitive electronics mid-assembly. When your manufacturing floor handles components vulnerable to electrostatic discharge, the concrete slab itself becomes part of your protection strategy. Gatineau Concrete installs dissipative flooring systems engineered to bleed static charge safely to ground, with megohmmeter verification confirming the resistance range meets your ANSI/ESD standard. The ESD specification

Why Static-Dissipative Flooring Sits in the Middle

ESD flooring is not simply conductive or insulating. It must occupy a narrow dissipative window where static charge flows to ground at a controlled rate. Too conductive and you risk electrical hazards; too insulating and charge accumulates faster than it can escape. The dissipative range is the safe zone.

We install epoxy systems with conductive elements (carbon black, conductive aggregate) loaded to hit your facility's target resistance range, then verify the finished slab across multiple points with a megohmmeter. Copper ground strips embedded in the concrete connect to the building electrical ground at engineered intervals. The result is a floor that actively protects your assembly line.

This approach integrates with our broader heavy-duty manufacturing floors and chemical-resistant epoxy systems. For clean room applications with stricter ESD specs, see our EV battery clean room flooring.

How ESD Flooring Gets Installed in Gatineau

  1. Define the ESD standard and zones

We work with your engineering and safety teams to confirm which ANSI/ESD standard governs your facility, identify which zones require dissipative flooring, and establish the target resistance range and grounding scheme.

  2. Prepare slab and set ground strips

The concrete slab is diamond-ground to the system profile. Copper ground strips are installed at the engineered spacing and connected to the building electrical ground at designated points per the electrical contractor's coordination.

  3. Apply dissipative epoxy system

The matched ESD epoxy is applied from primer through topcoat, with conductive fillers at the precise loading to land the finished floor in your target resistance range.

  4. Test and document resistance

After full cure, the floor is tested at multiple points with a megohmmeter. Resistance readings are documented for each zone and provided to your facility for compliance audits and future recertification.

The critical step

Megohmmeter Testing Proves the System Works

An ESD floor that looks correct but fails resistance testing is worse than useless. It creates a false sense of protection while components remain at risk. Megohmmeter verification at multiple points across the finished slab is the only way to confirm the dissipative system is actually performing. We never hand off an ESD floor without documented resistance readings.

Coordinate the install with your electrical contractor on the building ground scheme and with adjacent dust-proof sealing or warehouse flooring in non-ESD zones. Each system is detailed to work cleanly in its zone, part of our integrated manufacturing concrete approach.

Common questions

ESD Flooring Questions, Answered

Resistance ranges, grounding, verification and which manufacturing zones need ESD.

With a megohmmeter (high-resistance ohmmeter) at multiple test points across the floor, comparing to the ANSI/ESD standard's specified range. The reading needs to fall inside the dissipative window, not too low (conductive) or too high (insulating).
Only zones where ESD-sensitive components are handled. Electronics assembly, clean rooms, repair benches, certain pharmaceutical processes. The rest of the facility uses standard manufacturing flooring. We define the zones with you and your safety/engineering team.
Copper ground strips embedded in the floor at the engineered spacing connect to the building electrical ground at designated points. The electrical contractor coordinates with us on the connections and verifies the grounding scheme.
Many years with proper maintenance. ESD-compatible cleaning chemicals preserve the system; standard wax or solvent-based cleaners can compromise the resistance range. The maintenance protocol is part of project handoff and includes recertification cadence.
Similar to other epoxy systems plus the grounding install and verification steps. A typical zone takes a week to install and verify; multi-zone facilities stretch to several weeks with phased install. The schedule is in the quote.

★★★★★

ESD floor installed and verified across our assembly zone. Resistance documentation supported our customer compliance audit. The system has held for two years of daily operation.

Z. X4
Electronics Plant Manager, Gatineau
★★★★★

They knew the ANSI/ESD spec cold, coordinated with our electrical contractor on grounding, verified with the megohmmeter at handoff. No improvisation, no audit findings.

Y. X4
Production Engineer, Ottawa
★★★★★

Stricter clean room ESD spec, they hit it. Documentation, grounding, verification all in order. The auditor specifically called out the install quality.

Q. X4
Clean Room Operations, Barrhaven
★★★★★

Phased ESD install during off-shifts so production never stopped. Each zone verified before reopening, no resistance drift between zones. Real coordination.
