Pattern-Pressed Stamped Concrete Patios for Gatineau Backyards
Slate, flagstone, or plank textures pressed into wet concrete while the slab is still workable. Integral colour runs through the mix, a release agent adds depth, and sealing locks in the finish against Gatineau weather. The result reads like stone paving at a concrete price. Free written estimate.
- Slate, flagstone or plank patterns
- Joints hidden in the pattern
- Sealed for Gatineau weather

How Stamped Patio Construction Differs
The structural work is identical to any poured concrete patio: excavation to depth, compacted granular base, air-entrained mix, proper slope for drainage away from the house. The difference is the surface treatment. While the slab is still plastic, a release agent is applied and the stamp pattern is pressed in by hand or machine, creating the texture and joint lines.
Integral pigment mixed into the concrete gives the colour depth rather than a surface stain. Once the slab cures, control joints are cut to tuck into the pattern lines, and the whole surface is sealed. This seal is what keeps the colour vivid and protects the stamped finish from UV, weather, and salt.
Compared to exposed aggregate driveways, stamped requires more frequent resealing. Compared to plain sidewalks, it costs more upfront but delivers a premium look. Patio resurfacing can refresh an older stamped slab without a full tear-out.

The Stamped Patio Pour Sequence in Gatineau
-
Site prep and pattern selection
We measure the backyard, mark the patio footprint, and bring colour and pattern samples to view in natural daylight so you can see how the finish will look against your house and landscaping.
-
Excavate and set base
The area is dug to the correct depth, a compacted granular base is laid, and wooden or metal forms are set to establish the finished grade and slope so water runs away from the house.
-
Mix, place, and stamp
Air-entrained concrete with integral colour is placed into the forms, the release agent is applied to the surface, and the stamp pattern is pressed in while the slab is still workable.
-
Cure, cut joints, and seal
The slab cures for several days, control joints are cut along the pattern lines to hide them, and a protective sealer is applied to lock in colour and weather-proof the finish.
Choosing the right finish
Stamped vs Other Patio Finishes
Stamped concrete is the most decorative patio option, offering the look of natural stone without the cost and maintenance of laying actual pavers. Exposed aggregate patios sit in the middle, showing the stone in the mix for natural texture and lower upkeep. Plain broom-finish concrete is the most budget-friendly and durable, requiring minimal maintenance.
If you already have a patio that is structurally sound but visually tired, patio repair and resurfacing can extend its life without demolition. Stamped finishes also pair well with outdoor living projects like pool decks, fire pits, and kitchen areas.

Stamped Patio FAQs
Patterns, colour, sealing, freeze-thaw durability, and cost comparisons.
Stamped a slate-pattern patio behind the house. From the deck above you cannot tell it is not real slate, and the joints disappear into the pattern.
They brought pattern and colour samples in daylight, which made the choice obvious. The patio matches the existing stone on the house perfectly.
Big stamped flagstone patio off the kitchen. Looks designer, drains right, and a winter of freeze-thaw later there is not a crack out of the joint line.
Stamped plank pattern, gives a wood-deck look in concrete. No staining, no warping, just a quick wash and reseal every couple of years.
