Membrane Protection for Gatineau Wet Spaces

Water intrusion into basements, plaza decks, and wet rooms costs money and creates liability. Ardex waterproofing membranes and coatings are engineered systems where every layer, primer, membrane, protection board, works together to keep water out for decades. Gatineau Concrete is an Ardex-system installer, meaning we follow the full protocol and back it with warranty. Free written estimate on every project.

Why systems work

Ardex Waterproofing Membranes Require Full-System Install

A waterproofing membrane is not a standalone product. It bonds to a primed substrate, sits under a protection layer, and handles movement at joints and penetrations through engineered detail products. Remove or shortcut any step and the system fails.

Ardex designs each component to work with the others. The primer prepares the concrete surface for membrane adhesion. The membrane (liquid-applied or sheet) creates the water barrier at the specified thickness. The protection layer shields the cured membrane from backfill, foot traffic, or equipment during construction and service. The detail products handle corners, wall-floor transitions, and pipe penetrations where water finds gaps.

We install Ardex waterproofing as a complete system because that is what delivers the warranty and the long-term performance. See our full Ardex service range, or learn about basement waterproofing and commercial floor systems where waterproofing is part of the larger scope.

Installation sequence

How Ardex Waterproofing Gets Installed

  1. Assess and specify

We evaluate the substrate condition, exposure (below-grade, plaza, wet room), and protection requirements, then select the matching Ardex system from their product line.

  2. Prepare concrete

The slab or wall is cleaned, repaired with compatible Ardex repair products if needed, and any cracks or spalls are addressed before priming begins.

  3. Prime and membrane

The Ardex primer is applied to the prepared concrete, then the membrane (liquid-applied or sheet) is installed to the engineered thickness with all joint and penetration details per specification.

  4. Protect and hand off

The protection layer (drainage board, screed, or traffic surface) is installed over the cured membrane, the system is documented for warranty, and the waterproofing is ready for the next phase.

The failure point

Corners and Penetrations: Where Waterproofing Breaks Down

The membrane field rarely leaks. The problem is always at the transition: the corner where the wall meets the floor, the pipe or conduit penetrating the slab, the joint between two concrete sections. Water finds the gap and the system fails. Ardex provides engineered detail products, corner strips, flashing, sealants, designed for those transitions, and we install them per spec because that is where the waterproofing lives or dies.

If the substrate has existing damage, we use Ardex repair mortars to restore it before membrane install. For larger foundation waterproofing projects, the Ardex system integrates with our broader basement protection strategy.

Common questions

Ardex Waterproofing Questions, Answered

System types, joint details, protection layers and warranty.

Multiple systems for different applications: below-grade liquid-applied, plaza-deck membrane, wet-room system, balcony waterproofing. We spec from the Ardex range based on the project's actual exposure and substrate.
Because that is where most waterproofing fails. The membrane field is rarely the problem; the corner or penetration is. Ardex provides engineered detail products for those transitions; using them per spec is what makes the system hold.
A physical layer (drainage board, screed, traffic surface) installed over the cured membrane to protect it from backfill, traffic, or service exposure. Without protection, even a perfectly installed membrane can be damaged in subsequent construction phases.
Yes, system warranty applies when installed to Ardex spec by an Ardex-system installer. We deliver the warranty documentation at handoff.
Depends on area and system. Below-grade wall waterproofing on a foundation might be a few days; a full plaza-deck system stretches longer. The full schedule is in the quote.

They walked through the joint detail before install so we understood why it cost what it cost. The system has held; the up-front spec discussion was worth it.
