Gatineau Restaurant Concrete Floors Built for Three Zones

Kitchens, wash-down areas, and dining rooms each demand different concrete performance. We build the right slab system for each zone, then coordinate them as one floor.

  • Slip-rated kitchen systems
  • Wash-down slopes and drains
  • Polished or coated dining areas

The three-zone approach

Why Restaurant Concrete Isn't One-Size-Fits-All

A restaurant kitchen floor sees grease, heat, dropped equipment, and constant scrubbing. The slab must grip underfoot when wet and resist the chemicals used to clean it. A wash-down zone adds standing water and high-pressure spray to that mix. The dining and bar area is mostly about appearance and foot traffic, where a polished concrete finish or attractive coating works well.

Specifying one system across all three zones means compromising somewhere. We instead match the concrete slab and coating to each zone's actual use, then detail the transitions so they look intentional. The kitchen gets anti-slip flooring with documented slip ratings for insurance. The wash-down area slopes to drains and handles moisture. The front-of-house delivers the look the designer specified.

This approach extends across all our retail and restaurant concrete work, and into broader commercial floor systems for other building types. For breweries and wineries, see our brewery flooring service.

Installation sequence

How Restaurant Concrete Floors Get Built in Gatineau

  1. Map the zones with you

We visit the restaurant with you and the kitchen designer, mark out the cooking line, prep areas, wash station, dish pit, and front-of-house zones, and confirm what each zone needs to handle.

  2. Select systems per zone

Kitchen gets slip-rated anti-slip concrete with chemical resistance. Wash-down gets a sloped slab with floor drains and moisture-rated coating. Dining and bar get polished or decorative concrete. Transitions are planned at doorways or material boundaries.

  3. Prep and pour the slab

Each zone's concrete slab is ground to the right profile for its coating system, primed, and the base coat applied. Slip-resistant aggregate is broadcast into the kitchen and wash-down zones where needed. Topcoat seals everything.

  4. Document and hand off

We provide slip-rating documentation for insurance, maintenance schedules for each zone (what to clean with, how often to reseal), and a walkthrough so the kitchen and front-of-house teams know how to care for their concrete.

Insurance and compliance

Slip Ratings: What Your Restaurant Insurance Requires

Restaurant liability carriers expect documented slip-rated flooring in kitchens and wash-down areas. A slip-and-fall in a commercial kitchen is one of the costliest incidents in food service. The slip-rated concrete floor is both a safety measure and an insurance requirement. We specify and test every system to meet or exceed the slip ratings your carrier or local inspector requires, then provide the documentation.

Coordinate early with your kitchen designer and general contractor so the concrete slab layout matches equipment placement (drains under the dish station, slopes toward floor drains in wash areas). Work with us on the broader retail and restaurant concrete scope so the floor system fits the rest of the buildout. See our commercial concrete services for related work in other building types.

Common questions

Restaurant Flooring Questions, Answered

Kitchen anti-slip, wash-down systems, front-of-house finishes and insurance requirements.

Because three different environments coexist in one space with different demands. Kitchen needs grip plus chemical resistance, wash-down needs slope plus wet-slip rating, front-of-house needs look plus traffic. One system everywhere compromises all three.
Insurance and industry guidelines define minimum slip ratings for wet and dry conditions. We specify the system to meet or exceed those targets, document the rating, and provide that documentation to your insurance carrier or inspector.
In front-of-house, yes, polished concrete is a strong choice for dining and bar areas. Not in kitchens or wash-down zones, polished concrete is not slip-rated for wet kitchen environments. We use it where it fits and other systems where they fit.
Transitions are planned where it makes sense (often at a doorway or material change), the two systems are detailed to meet flush, and the joint is sealed appropriately. The transition is visible but intentional, not improvised.
Sometimes, where the renovation can be zoned. Kitchen and wash-down work typically requires the kitchen to be down for several days for prep and cure. Front-of-house can sometimes be staged around dining hours. We plan around your operations.

Three different systems for kitchen, wash-down and dining. Insurance accepted the slip ratings, staff feel safer, and the dining room looks the way the designer wanted. Three problems solved at once.

Kitchen floor with proper drains and slope to them. Wash-down cycle no longer ponds water against the line. Real understanding of how a kitchen actually works, not just a generic coating.
