Sealed Epoxy Floors for Gatineau Basements & Shops
Epoxy transforms a bare concrete slab into a seamless, washable, chemical-resistant surface that holds up to spills, foot traffic and equipment. Gatineau Concrete starts with proper slab preparation, then applies the full epoxy system in layers, primer through topcoat, matched to your room's use and finish preference. Every project includes a free written estimate and a firm completion date.

The foundation of durability
Slab Preparation Determines Whether Epoxy Coating Lasts or Fails
Epoxy peeling within months is not a product defect, it is a prep defect. When a coating is rolled onto a sealed, smooth or damp slab, adhesion fails and the finish lifts. We grind or shot-blast every slab to open the concrete surface, test for moisture, and remove any old sealers or contaminants before the epoxy system goes down.
Once the slab is ready, the epoxy choice depends on the room. A basement utility area gets a basic epoxy with a flake or solid-colour topcoat. A workshop or storage space gets a tougher epoxy formulated for chemical and abrasion resistance. A finished living area gets a decorative metallic or self-leveling epoxy with a high-gloss clear topcoat.
The system is applied in the correct sequence, primer for adhesion, body coat with any decorative elements, then topcoat for protection and appearance. This same discipline applies to our garage floor coating and polished concrete floor work. When the slab is uneven, we pair the epoxy with a self-leveling floor underlayment to bring it into tolerance first.
Installation sequence
The Four Stages of Installing Epoxy Flooring in Gatineau
-
Assess slab condition and moisture
We inspect the concrete for cracks, old sealers and moisture content, confirm the epoxy system matches the room's use, and identify any prep work needed before coating can begin.
-
Grind or blast the surface
The slab is mechanically ground with diamond tools or shot-blasted to the profile the manufacturer specifies, opening the concrete pores so epoxy can mechanically bond rather than sit on top.
-
Apply primer, body, and topcoat
We install the full epoxy system in sequence, primer for adhesion, body coat with flake or metallic if selected, then topcoat for chemical resistance and the finish you want, all to manufacturer coverage rates.
-
Cure and hand off
Each layer cures to schedule before the next is applied, the topcoat reaches full chemical resistance within the published cure window, and we provide the timeline for foot traffic and full load.
Choosing the right finish
When Epoxy Is the Right Choice, and When It Isn't
Interior epoxy is the best choice for basements, workshops, utility rooms and any space where a sealed, washable, chemical-resistant surface matters more than a hard, uncoated finish.
If you want the concrete itself to be the finish with no coating to maintain, stained concrete adds colour directly to the slab. Polished concrete grinds the slab to a hard, bright finish with no topcoat. Micro-topping resurfaces a slab that is not suitable for epoxy before either of those routes. For spaces that need both flatness and a sealed finish, we layer self-leveling underlayment under the epoxy system.

Interior Epoxy Floor Questions, Answered
Slab prep, system choice, durability and chemistry resistance for interior epoxy in Gatineau.
Epoxy in the basement utility room. Seamless, easy to wipe down, and our laundry-spill incidents stopped being a problem the day they finished the install.
Workshop floor with a chemical-resistant topcoat. Two years of solvents and dropped tools and the surface still wipes clean. They prepped the slab properly first, that is the difference.
Decorative metallic epoxy in our finished basement. Looks like a statement floor, but it cleans like vinyl. Way nicer than the carpet we ripped out.
They explained that polished would not work on our slab and recommended a micro-topping plus epoxy instead. Done right, the new floor looks like a brand-new install.
